In 2017 Kyd Kane became the first poet/vocal artist to be named a finalist in artprize, the world's largest art competition, with “broke(n)hunger”, her very first entry, exhibited at The UICA.

Kyd co-hosts a spoken word open mic with @briize11 called Creston Vibes which tailors each week’s message to different themes and concepts. It’s an emotional experience to behold!

As a white man who has benefited from privilege ba

As a white man who has benefited from privilege based on my race and gender, I recognize how important it is for me to use my voice to speak out now. With the new life I’m helping bring into this world it’s my responsibility to teach our child to be actively anti-racist, empathetic, and humble. I believe the best way to do that is to lead by example through calling out racism when I see it, educating myself on what it means to be an effective ally, and listening to the voices of those who are oppressed.

I also recognize that it’s important to financially support organizations that fight for equity day in and day out, which is why I’ve chosen to donate to the ACLU.
